The property market on Koh Samui has expanded at pace in the last three years with international buyers looking to the island both as a solid investment opportunity and also a lifestyle choice.
As a result this interest in Samui real estate, prices on the island have climbed considerably, but that does not mean bargains cannot be found. Stunning, land plots, villas and apartments can still be bought for considerably less than they would cost in other global holiday hot spots such as the Caribbean and Mediterranean.
The private villa market on Samui has enjoyed significant growth with increasing demand for private holiday villas that provide owner and rental guests with exclusive and private accommodation. Such properties now offer all the facilities of a resort, including private or communal pools, fitness centres and dedicated staff to take care of guests.
Koh Samui's east and north coast are home to the largest number of private villas and residential developments because these areas also offer easy access to the island's main commercial areas. However, less developed areas on the west and south coast appeal to investors and long stay guests in search of peace and a sense of tropical escape. Renting a car is an increasingly popular way for visitors and residents to get around as most places are less that 30 minute's drive from the island's restaurants, shopping outlets and entertainment centres.
Many villas on Koh Samui have been specifically built with rental guests in mind. Some villas are part of a gated community and therefore have broadly similar designs and facilities. Other properties are stand alone creations built as dream homes for the owners, which has resulted in a wide choice of unique residences for rental guests to choose from on the island.
